We teach phonics following the DfE Letters and Sounds scheme and using resources from the Jolly Phonics programme. The teaching and learning of phonics in EYFS and KS1 is of a very high standard – pupils make excellent progress from their starting points.  Last year 83% (National Average 81%) of our children passed the phonics test that all children across the country have to take in Y1.

Children start by  learning to identify different sounds and then move on to reading and writing letters.  Children learn the letter sounds and use hand actions to reinforce their understanding.

The videos below show the hand actions and sounds that the children learn in the order that they are taught.
